Insect Bites
Insect bites are a common problem that anyone can face. Anyone of any age, no
matter where you live can become a victim of insect bites.
There are many different types of insect bites and stings are actually very common. They usually result in
- redness,
- swelling and
- sometimes itching in the infected area.
In rare cases, a sting or insect bite can be extremely painful and can even cause a life-threatening
allergic reaction. And of course, certain kinds of insect bites can cause disease.
Learning more about insects and why they bite can help you prevent and treat insect bites. Insects will usually only bite in self defense which means if you get
bitten or stung, the insect felt that you were a threat in some way.
Often these bites and stings are an attempt to protect their hives or nests. You can try to avoid this by
staying clear of obvious hives and nests.
There are certain types of insects that have a higher chance of allergic reaction in humans when they sting or
bite. Among the most common are
- bees,
- wasps, and
- certain types of ants, especially the kind known as fire ants.
When they sting you, venom which is composed of certain proteins is injected into the human and this protein is
what may trigger an allergic reaction.
Mosquitoes are another common insect that bites but they do not usually cause significant
health problems unless they are carrying some type of disease or infection, such as malaria.
